Try this Amazing Roadrip to Xerokampos, a top Beach of East Crete
I strongly recommend to try this Amazing Road Trip to Xerokampos, a top Beach of East Crete. Anyone who finds himself in eastern Crete and especially in the area of Sitia, Ierapetra or further east should set aside a day to visit Xerokampos.

The roadtrip to Xerokabos through Ziros Plateau is enchanting, one of the most beautiful in Crete. The landscape and the biosphere are unique and the view of Xerokampos is breathtaking.

The place of contrasts, Xerokampos, claims first place for the most beautiful beaches of eastern Crete, and not without reason.
It dominates between the imposing bare mountains of Lasithi, the wild gorges and the fertile small valley with olive groves, figs, almond trees, pines and palm trees.

The beaches of Xerokampos cover all tastes. In a distance of almost 6 km we find beaches with white sand, with golden sand, with rocks, with pebbles, with fine pebbles, while you can also find clay loam for a quick natural spa.

In Vourlia Bay there is a large protected area with sand lilies.
Along the beaches we meet the Salt Lake, it is a natural lagoon that stays dry in the summer and creates a salt flat next to the sea.
Relaxing Underwater world of Summer in South Crete
During our summer vacations i took my camera and filmed some scenes of the beach underwater world.

These shots were taken in Koutsounari, Ierapetra, Crete, Greece. Fishes that you can see are sardines, mullet, fish tongue and other small
fishes that live near the beach. At the end of the video you can spot a small "volcano" from the bottom of the ocean......
Mirtos is the warmest place of Europe
First of all some facts. Mirtos is the warmest place of Europe, with an average of 320 sunny days a year.
With Only 600 Inhabitants, Who still have enough place for their holiday guests. Mirtos is never full. No mass tourism.
Small and always hospitable! When everywhere else in Crete air is blowing in Mirtos is always calm Authentic and very welcoming.
Mirtos is a community full of Cretan traditions and customs. In this way the village distinguishes itself from many other resorts. Mirtos was not specifically built for tourism. Mirtos was there long before. When tourism began in the eighties, people offered a room or an apartment. In this way Mirtos became known as a hospitable village. Today the village has different types of accommodation, from the very simple to the very luxurious and much in between. Plenty of restaurants and cafes in the village centre and the promenade have been added over the years, with attractive terraces overlooking the sea or the bustling streets of Mirtos. No hectic crowds, but real everyday life. And as the holiday season is over, the blinds do not go down with a sigh. No, not a ghost town in the winter. Because the lives of hard-working people continue. Farmers and gardeners can be found on their land almost every day. The olives must be harvested and pressed, tomatoes and cucumbers should be picked and traded. In the schoolyard children’s voices sound and in the two supermarkets purchases continue and a little chat is had. Sunday morning, the church bell rings to bring people together in one of the two churches. An ancient tradition within the Greek Orthodoxy, here too. Mirtos is primarily an agricultural community, that likes to make way for the holidaymaker. Therefore many people from so many different countries like to come back. They feel a very warm welcome here.

Exploring BYRON I Shipwreck  at Kaloi Limenes area South Heraklion Crete
I remember this ship over the water as a kid when we spend our summer with my family at kala Limania area.
After 33 years i managed to visit back the shipwreck of Byron I and take some shots.
BYRON I was a cargo ship carrying 11.000 tons of sugar. On January 17, 1985 at around 11.30am, all Crete was in the grip of unprecedented bad weather with heavy winds, heavy rains, floods and cutoff communications. BYRON I strayed to the bottom. The SOS that transmitted for unspecified reasons never reached the Heraklion Port Authority. The signal was captured by the Merchant Marine’s business booth and sent a rescue helicopter to the area. By the time BYRON I was cut in the middle and made salty sea water …sweet. The crew managed to leave the ship and be saved.
